KARACHI, April 30: Various programmes are being organized to celebrate the International Labour Day — popularly known as May Day — in the city like elsewhere around the globe on May 1.

In Nazimabad, a workers’ rally is being organized by the National Trade Union Federation of Pakistan at Marhaba Lawn near AO Clinic at 9.30am. Labour leaders S.P. Landhi, Habib Junaidi, Farid Awan, Saleem Raza and others will speak on the occasion.

In Landhi, the Mazdoor Action Committee will take out a procession from Future More. The participants after passing through various roads including Landhi Korangi “K” Industrial Area, Dawood Chowrangi, and Hospital Chowrangi will terminate at Old Muzaffarabad Chowrangi. The workers will be addressed by various labour leaders at the termination point.

The “Berozgar (Unemployment) Convention” will be organized by the Shabab-i-Milli at its office near Islamia College in Quaideen Colony at 4pm.

On the eve of the International Labour Day, a torch-bearing procession was taken out from the Regal Chowk which after passing through various city streets culminated at a newspaper office on Saturday evening.

The procession was organized by the Mazdoor Yakjehti Committee, which earlier in the afternoon had organized a literary meeting in memory of Habib Jalib, poet of the masses, at Karachi Press Club.
