GUJRAT, April 29: An anti-terrorism court of Gujranwala has declared seven people, including the Kharian tehsil nazim, court absconders in a case lodged with the Cantonment police.

The police had registered a case against Nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira, Naveed Zaman Kaira, Raza Mohiuddin, Ghulam Dastagir and seven unidentified people for attacking the police station and beating SHO Ghulam Jaffar in a bid to get released PPP leader Zia Mohiuddin a few days ago. The case was registered on the complaint of the SHO.

Later, the police nominated Shahzad Mohiuddin, Babar, Zafar and councillor Basharat in the supplementary FIR in place of the unidentified accused.

The Kharian police raided the outhouse of Kairas in Lalamusa twice but failed to arrest the accused.

An ATC judge of Gujranwala declared Nadeem Asghar Kaira, Naveed Zaman Kaira, Raza Mohiuddin, Shahzad Mohiuddin, Babar, Zafar and Basharat court absconders.

When contacted, SHO Ghulam Jaffar confirmed that the ATC had declared them court absconders and empowered the police to make arrangements for the issuance of an advertisement notice.

He said if the accused did not appear before the police, they would be declared proclaimed offenders. This correspondent tried to contact the tehsil nazim, but his cell phone was off.
