BAHAWALPUR, April 29: There are bleak chances of suicide in the case of a lady health visitor Tasleem Bibi who was found dead in a room of Ahmedpur East police station. One of the doctors involved in the postmortem examination of the woman’s body at the Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital last night told Dawn, requesting anonymity, that there were less chances of the LHV committing suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in a police official’s room.

However, he added it was hard to ascertain actual circumstances of her death before receipt of the chemical examination results. The process could take a month or so, he added.

The police had claimed that the LHV, a married woman with two children, had committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. The claim was challenged by Tasleem Bibi’s brother yesterday. As regards chances of rape of the deceased, the experts said it was very difficult to ascertain as the woman was married and had children.

Meanwhile, DPO Arif Nawaz has said that a judicial probe into the death would be conducted along with the departmental inquiry ordered yesterday, as the woman was in police custody and an ASI had locked her in a separate room, while her alleged lover was kept in a separate cell. Both were taken into custody by police on suspicion of having illicit relations from a locality near Ahmedpur East.

The body was handed over to the deceased’s father and brothers who took it to their village for burial last night.
