GILGIT, June 4: Northern Areas Chief Secretary Fazal Durrani has appealed to people for maintaining sectarian harmony and fostering unity among their ranks at a time when the nation is faced with the Indian threats.
He was talking to a team of the Shia Ulema that met him here to discuss about controversy stemmed from the amendments in the curriculum of Islamiat textbooks.
The delegation demanded of the chief secretary to remove the changes made, which, according to them, were controversial and a threat to the sectarian harmony in the region.
Mr Durrani, assisted by Northern Areas Education Secretary Saeed Ahmed Khan, told the team that the government was aware of the issue, and that a committee to resolve the matter had already been formed.
He assured the Ulema that the body would soon submit its findings and suggestions to the authorities concerned.
In reply to a question, Mr Durrani told the delegation that expunging of certain parts of the new curriculum was under consideration at the federal government level, as only the federal government being an authority could decide about the problem.
