KARACHI, April 26: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has stressed the need for initiating measures for combating crimes, especially street crimes, dacoities and robberies. He was presiding over a meeting at Governor House in which steps for elimination of crimes were reviewed.
The meeting decided to set up an anti-dacoity, robbery cell to control these incidents in the city. This special investigation cell will function under a DIG and 10 different teams, comprising officers, will work in the city under the supervision of this cell.
These teams will be responsible for unearthing elements involved in cases of robberies and dacoities, chalk out preventive measures, inform people about necessary precautionary steps and submit cases against arrested elements in a fool-proof manner.
The governor also called for an exemplary action against elements involved in trading of stolen articles. He said a check be also maintained at places where stolen articles are sold.
The governor directed that police mobiles be kept functional at police stations and on operational services on a priority basis. He directed all government departments to arrange vehicles for security duties of their ministers and senior officials at their own.
In this regard, the departments were given three months where after all police mobiles would be returned back to the police department for operational duties.
The governor issued directives for continuous monitoring of police staff and vehicles deployed on other security duties.
He said all financial institutions be asked to have their own security monitoring and recording system functional.
Dr Ibad had an appraisal about the buildings of police stations and directed the home secretary to approach the nazim and take steps for acquiring plots for police stations.
The meeting was informed that during the current financial year, 12 new police station buildings would be constructed.
He asked chief secretary and IGP to examine setting up of reporting centres and reducing the number of police stations.
