KARACHI: PTAs renamed

Published November 5, 2001

KARACHI, Nov 4: The parents-teachers associations have been renamed as school management committees (SMC) and the education department has directed the EDOs to furnish a list of members elected for the purpose.

Provincial education minister Prof Anita Ghulam Ali said that elections of the committees had been completed in many institutions of the province. She hoped that the SMCs would be a source of guidance and assistance to the school management and benefit the students.

The seed money provided by the provincial government will be maintained by the chairperson. The SMCs have been warned that it should be non-commercial and non-political.

Stringent measures will be taken against the violators to ensure that the working and meeting proceedings are properly recorded for inspection. Any deviation from the standard stated in the notification of Aug 13, will make all members liable to action.—APP
