Delhi-Multan peace march planned

NEW DELHI, March 5: A group of peace activists from Pakistan and India is planning to undertake journey on foot later this month from Delhi to Multan through the route that Sufi saint Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Aulia (RA) used in the 13th century.

The activists will start from the shrine of Nizamuddin Aulia (RA) here on March 23 and march through Sonipat, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar, among other towns.

They hope to cross the border at Wagah on April 18 and walk through Lahore, the ancient site of Harappa and other cities in Pakistan before reaching the tomb of Hazrat Bahauddin Zakaria (RA) in Multan on May 11.

"We learnt that Hazrat Nizamuddin walked from Delhi to Multan in 1257 to meet a well-known mystic. Through our walk now we want to highlight the mysticism of the region and thereby carry the message of peace," said Karamat Ali, Executive Director of the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research.

A group of 130 people from the two countries will walk the entire distance and they hope to be joined by thousands of people en route. However, their visa applications were yet to be processed, said a report.-APP
