SWABI, Feb 9: Fearing collapse of houses, people living in Swabi have been shifting from their mud-houses to safe places as rain continued uninterrupted in the region for the fourth day on Wednesday.

No casualty has been reported, but the rainfall is posing threat to a large number of houses.

"We would stay with our relatives till the rain stops. Roofs have been leaking and it appears that the rain may not stop for a few days, said Rekhan Bacha of Maneri Bala. It rained the whole day on Wednesday, causing panic among people.

The Met Office says rain would continue for two or three days. Many people have started covering the roofs of their homes with plastic sheets and shops selling plastic items are seeing a rush of buyers.

"I have hired an extra employee to cope with the increasing demand of plastic sheets," said Roohal Amin, a businessman of Swabi Adda. About 40 per cent of people in the district live in mud- houses, especially farmers. The low-lying areas have been inundated and people are facing hardship.

The intermittent rain has affected normal life, business activities remain suspended and many localities have been without electricity for hours.
