TOBA TEK SINGH, Feb 6: An amount of Rs100 million could not be spent on development which was allocated by the district government for citizen community boards (CCBs) for the current financial year.
A source disclosed that the CCBs were to be formed in more than 500 villages for uplift schemes but only 170 boards were constituted, out of which only 40 CCBs executed schemes worth Rs10 million.
SCHOLARSHIP: Seven students, including four girls, won the Quaid-i-Azam scholarship who had passed the Intermediate examination in 2004 with distinction.
An education department official said on Sunday the girlsbelonged to commerce and arts. They are: Ahala Akbar of Pirmahal government degree college, Saira Ijaz of Gojra Shibli college, Tayyaba Riaz of Toba national college for women and Rabia Iqbal of Gojra government municipal degree college, Yasir Waheed of Toba national college, Muhammad Ramzan of Kamalia government premsati college and Ahsan Siraj of Tobacollege.
DACOITS: Dacoits looted more than a dozen passers-by on the link road of Chak 296-GB here on Saturday night. Reports said the bandits made off with cash, ornaments and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees.
Two days ago, the dacoits had looted 70 people, including passengers of two rickshaws and some motorcylists, after holding them hostage at a nearby school's building on another link road of Chak 294-GB.
