Bugti to wait for govt response

Published December 26, 2004

QUETTA, Dec 25: Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, chief of Jamhoori Watan Party, has said that his party would wait for another few days for the government to give a reply on the proposals suggested by the party to resolve the issues in Balochistan through dialogue.

He said that the government had hinted of a positive response.

Talking to newsmen in Dera Bugti on Saturday, the JWP chief said that the objective of the party was to attain provincial autonomy, to enable Balochs to have authority over their resources, and the provincial government should have the prerogative of collecting revenue.

He said that acceptance of the rights of the Baloch people by the rulers would pave the way for a better working relationship between Balochistan and the federation.

Nawab Bugti reiterated his demand that the government should give up the idea of establishing cantonments in the province.

He demanded that the youths arrested in the province on different pretexts should be freed.
