ZC body to exercise Nazim’s powers

GUJRANWALA, Oct 29: The district council constituted on Monday a seven-member committee which would exercise the executive powers of the district Nazim.

The committee was constituted at a council session presided over by district Naib Nazim Gohar Zaman. District Nazim Chaudhry Fiaz Ahmad Chattha also attended.

Earlier, treasury and opposition members opposed a move that all executive powers should be exercised by the district Nazim. They suggested that these powers should be retained by the council.

The meeting constituted a committee in which three opposition members were included. The members of committee will be Chaudhry Zahid Pervaiz, Chaudhry Imtiaz Rasul Bath, Sheikh Ghulam Sarwar, Chaudhry Khadim Hussain and opposition members Dr Zafar Iqbal, Maj Khalid Yaqoob (retired) and Mian M. Haq Irshad.

It was decided that the district council would elect members of the public safety commission and other committees later when the complete list of the members would be received.

The members of district council presented many suggestions and recommendations about the developments programme in their areas. They demanded that the development schemes should be got completed on priority basis.

The meeting would continue for three days.
