HARIPUR, Nov 16: Six members of a family, including a girl, drowned in the Khanpur dam on Tuesday. Police said that Lt-Col Sibtain of Wah Cantonment, along with six members of his family , was having a picnic at the Khanpur Dam when his daughter, Komal, 8, accidentally fell into the water.

In a bid to rescue her, Col Sibtain, his nephews Zeeshan, 15, and Shujaat Abbas, 13, brother-in-law Talib Hussain Shah and two other relatives Amer Shahzad, 24, and his brother Usman, 22, jumped into the water one after the other. However, they could not save Komal, and all of them, except Col Sibtain, who managed to swim to the bank, drowned.

All the bodies were later fished out from the lake late in the evening, police said.
