KARACHI, Nov 13: The SHO and two head-constables of the Sachal police station were placed under suspension for taking bribe and keeping four men in illegal detention.

Gulshan town police officer Asif Aijaz said that he had suspended SHO Ayaz Khan and head-constables Liaquat and Riaz. An inquiry had been initiated against them, he added. "We will take necessary legal and departmental action against the officials if they were found involved," the TPO said.

He said that one, Abdul Waheed, who was wanted by Lahore police, was formally arrested. The man would be taken to Lahore, he added.

Police had detained the SHO, head-constables and a police informer, Idrees, after receiving an information that they had attempted to take bribe of Rs4 million for the release of a wanted suspect.

The SHO did not put the arrest on record, which showed his bad intention, police sources said.

In their statements, Ayaz Khan and Riaz maintained that all the matter was in the knowledge of the Gulshan TPO. However, the sources refuted their claim saying that TPO was completely unaware of the facts. By giving such statements, the accused were trying to implicate the TPO in the affair to save their skin, they said.

The action against the SHO and head-constables was initiated after the matter was brought to the notice of police high-ups.

It was also recommended that an FIR for illegal detention of Waheed, along with his four relatives, also be registered againstofficials, the sources added.

The suspended officials have been handed over to the Gulshan TPO for further legal and departmental action.
