RAWALPINDI, Nov 4: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and People's Labour Bureau, Punjab, would accelerate their movement for restoration of constitution and democracy in the country soon after Eidul Fitr.

General Secretary People's Labour Bureau, Punjab, Women Wing Khafza Rukhsana Bashir said this while speaking at an Iftar party held at Bhutto Di Jhuggi here on Thursday.

Ms Bashir said the women and labour wings of PPP were fully backing the party and the time had come that the regime should be shown the might and will of the masses by launching a movement for restoration of constitution and democracy. She said there was no democracy in the country.

The sole remedy to all the issues being faced by the country was democracy and rule of law, which was not possible under the present regime run by a military general, she said.

The country, Ms Bashir said, badly needed the services of Benazir Bhutto at this critical juncture and the time had come that she must be allowed to come back and serve the nation.

Ms Bhutto, she said, was still the most popular political figure in the country, because, she followed in the footsteps of her father the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who stood for democracy and the rights of the poor and the working middle class of the country.

Qazi Sultan Mehmood, former president of the PPP, Rawalpindi, said the rulers had resorted to political victimisation and were targeting the democratic forces one by one. He said political leaders were being put behind the bars in order to stop them from mobilising the masses against the injustices and undemocratic and unconstitutional moves of the government.

He said Asif Ali Zardari, Yousaf Raza Gillani and many other political figures were behind the bars because they refused to bow to the regime and always stood against the undemocratic forces. He demanded of the government to take back cases against all the political prisoners immediately.

The problems of the ordinary people have multiplied because the military government, which had taken over the country in the name of restoration of democracy and solution of the issues, had failed to practically do so, he said.
