BHUBANESHWAR, Nov 2: The leader of the eastern Indian state of Orissa was on Tuesday injured in violence between rival lawmakers in the provincial assembly, witnesses said.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik injured his foot when his desk fell on him during an all-out brawl between members of the ruling Biju Janata Dal and the opposition Congress party.

The incident occurred when Congress legislators were protesting over an agreement between the government and a private company over bauxite mining.

Dissatisfied at mining minister Padmanav Behera's reply on the issue, Congress legislators clashed with members of the ruling party, injuring Patnaik in the process. -AFP
