KARACHI, Nov 2: National Assembly members of the People's Party Parliamentarians on Tuesday denounced the detention of Orangi Town Nazim Shahid Alam, who has been behind the bars for about 20 months.

In a statement issued from Bilawal House, MNAs Nawab Yousuf Talpur, Khurshid Shah, Nawab Manzoor Wassan, Nabeel Gabol, Fozia Wahab and Sher Mohammad Baloch termed the detention 'state terrorism' and said the government should refrain from misusing its powers.

They demanded immediate and unconditional release of the nazim.

They claimed that the government was afraid of the PPP's people-friendly polices and it was using "unconstitutional and inferior tactics to halt the PPP's public representatives" from serving the masses.

They said that on one hand the government claimed that democracy was prevailing in the county while on the other hand it was not allowing Mr Alam to take charge of his post a release order from the judiciary.

"The rulers should understand that they will be accountable for their illegal and unconstitutional actions in the near future," they said.

They appealed to the chief justice to take suo motu action for the nazim's release.-PPI
