KARACHI, June 3: As many as 2O4 cases of unfair means were reported during the first phase of Intermediate annual examinations, which concluded on May 30.

According to sources in the Board of Intermediate Education, the candidates belonged to three groups: pre-medical, pre- engineering and commerce (regular) faculties. Eight female candidates also resorted to use unfair means.

In all, 28 students were detected using unfair means in the pre-medical examinations, while 48 in the pre-engineering examinations. In the commerce group examinations 28 students were held on account of unfair means.

A senior BIE official said that 35 candidates ran away with the answer scripts, while 164 were found in possession of cheating materials and three were held for impersonation.

Two cases were reported about unauthorized change of examination centres.

It was learnt that the committee dealing with the unfair means cases would issue letters to the candidates and would give them a chance to clarify their position.

Assessment of scripts of the candidates allegedly involved in unfair means cases would be allowed only after the committee decided their cases, said the official, clarifying that assessment of scripts of any candidate proved guilty would not be undertaken at all.
