LONDON, Oct 31: Wigan continued their push for the Premier League with a 2-0 win at Leeds United that took them six points clear at the top of the second division on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Wigan went ahead a minute into the second when Irish midfielder Alan Mahon scored with a superb 25 metre effort.

The visitors doubled their lead six minutes later with another confident finish by another midfielder, Jimmy Bullard, and Wigan never looked like being pegged back.

They top the standings on 36 points ahead of Ipswich Town, who beat Preston North End 3-0 on Saturday.

Reading slipped to third also on 30 points after losing 3-2 at Coventry on Saturday.

Leeds., who had conceded only two goals in their previous six home games, remain 16th on 18 points.- Reuters
