VEHARI, Oct 28: The legal community of Vehari, Burewala and Mailsi observed complete strike here on Thursday against the arrest of traders, including PML-N MPA Dr Nazir, 'misbehaviour' of police with lawyers and the ongoing anti-encroachment drive.

Talking to newsmen, Dr Nazir said the Fateh Shah police allegedly tortured him in custody. However, SHO Ejaz Akram said Dr Nazir injured himself by striking his head against the wall of lock-up.

According to some eyewitnesses, a clash between traders of Burewala and TMA official started some days ago when an anti-encroachment squad loaded various items into a trolley from outside the shops. During the operation, a trader received injuries and the PML-N MPA tried to cash in on this situation.

Meanwhile, Anjuman Tajran President Jamil Bhatti said the traders had called off the strike after an agreement with the TMA officials.

POWER THIEVES: Over 30 power thieves were arrested from various parts of the district here on Thursday.
