BANGALORE, Oct 9: India's Virender Sehwag was on Saturday summoned for a hearing by match referee Ranjan Madugalle for misconduct during the first Test against Australia.

Sehwag was seen exchanging words with umpire Billy Bowden of New Zealand and the Australian players after being given out leg-before off Glenn McGrath in the post-lunch session of the fourth day.

The batsman was unlucky to be given out as television replays showed the ball hit the pad off the inside edge of the bat.

Madugalle, the former Sri Lanka captain, said Sehwag had apologised during a meeting which was also attended by Indian coach John Wright and umpires Bowden and Steve Bucknor.

"I will announce my verdict on Sunday," Madugalle said.

Under International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations, Sehwag could be fined his match fees or even banned for one match.-AFP
