ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has dismissed a suit of Murlidhar Gangwani, former president of Institute of Engineers Pakistan (IEP), challenging the notification of extension of tenure of the institute's administrator Aftab Islam Agha.

The tenure of Mr Agha was extended by Secretary Industries Fayyaz Ahmed of the Punjab government.

Senior counsel Wasim Sajjad argued before the court that under section 20 of the criminal procedure code, the appellant had filed the suit in the wrong court as headquarters of the IEP was in Lahore and hence fall under the territorial jurisdiction of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

He said a similar matter relating to the petitioner was already pending at the LHC and, therefore, the assumption of jurisdiction by the SHC would be against the basic structure of the Constitution.
