HARIPUR: Court summons UK national

HARIPUR, Oct 9: Fresh summons were issued by the district and sessions judge here on Saturday calling a British national of Pakistani origins to appear before the court on Oct 14 along with his two children.

The district and sessions judge, Sahibzada Khurshed Khattak, had issued an arrest warrant of Mr Ahmad and asked the police to ensure compliance by the respondent on Oct 9, when he failed to produce his two children before the court. He had been ordered by the Supreme Court to do so on Sept 6.

Tanvir Ahmad, a resident of the Khalabat township of Haripur, had obtained British nationality and married a woman of Indian origins, Pretiben Deepak Nanda, who changed her name to Yasmeen Ahmed after she reportedly converted to Islam.

The couple had two children namely Ansa Ahamad, 4, and Kamil Ahmad, 3, but, according to Mr Ahmad he left England to his native country after his wife had unlawfully married another man, Anjam Shahzad Malik. He said that she had married the man, who he said was an illegal immigrant from Pakistan, without getting a divorce from him.

But according to a letter carrying a reference of a Manchester-based family court and another court, which is equal to a Pakistani high court, Ms Nanda's solicitors, Joan & Ferguson, requested the Supreme Court of Pakistan for deporting the two children, adding that Mr Ahmad had removed the children without informing the Manchester court which had earlier asked both the father and mother to keep the children for three days each every week.

The SC had ordered the district and session judge Haripur in July for implementation of orders to repatriate the children to England within a fortnight. On July 28, the court had issued a notice to Mr Ahamad for the production of children before the court but his counsel had sought time till the next hearing.

It was learnt that the police had launched a massive manhunt for arresting Mr Ahmad, who had so far not been traced.
