PESHAWAR, Oct 2: Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer says he needs Test matches to improve his players' temperament and technique.

"Ever since taking over, the team has had to play only the one-day matches and it requires serious cricket to sort out such problems," he said on the eve of Pakistan s tri-series match against Zimbabwe. "I am looking forward to the Test matches which would help me in removing the flaws."

Since the Englishman s arrival in June this year, Pakistan won four of their five matches at the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in July and finished losing finalists to Australia in a tri-series in Holland last month.

They lost to West Indies in the semifinals of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan s immediate Test matches are against Sri Lanka whom they play in Faisalabad and Karachi this month.

Woolmer said that he would like to witness Pakistan's domestic cricket now that he would have time so that he could see first hand if any talented players were waiting in the wings. "I'll recommend such players to the selectors."

Pakistan are to tour Australia in December for a Test series before which Woolmer wants to have a good look at the domestic scene.
