LAHORE, Sept 18: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said on Saturday a road construction division had been established in the communication and works department to monitor the implementation of ongoing projects.

He was addressing a delegation of MNAs from Sheikhupura and Mandi Bahauddin headed by Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal.

He said a comprehensive policy had been evolved to expedite the infrastructure development process in the province.

He said the government had spent Rs5 billion on the construction of roads and bridges across the province last year. The projects of current fiscal year would also be completed on time, he added.

He said work on the establishment of the new industrial estates and restoration of the old ones in the province was underway.

Industrial progress would create job opportunities, he added.

He said the federal, provincial and district governments had introduced several poverty alleviation programmes together in the province.
