ABBOTTABAD, Sept 11: MMA and Jamat-i-Islami chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that the army operation in Waziristan is an example of state terrorism.

He also lashed out at the government for starting a campaign against madressahs.

Addressing a press conference at the residence of district JI chief Mehboob Elahi on Saturday, he said that "we had supported President Musharraf under an agreement endorsed by S.M.Zaffar and backed the 17th amendment. If the president did not honour his commitment, the MMA will launch a forceful countrywide protest."

He said the alliance would force President Musharraf to fulfil his legal and moral commitment.

He said breach of agreement by the president will also go against the code of the armed forces, which stipulates that a post can't be held by an incumbent for more than three years.

About the government's stand on Kashmir, he said that any shift in Kashmir policy would amount to a departure from the basic ideology of Pakistan, based as it was on the 'two-nation theory'.

He slated the role of Punjab government for having an exchange of delegations with India. He added that "we would lose our identity and ideology if this exchange continued."

The MMA chief said that in the post-9/11 period, most European countries had started targeting Muslims.

He said that one could see its examples in the atrocities committed against Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. He said that Pakistan's role to counter this trend was very discouraging.

Replying to a question about the reported rift in the MMA, he said the ongoing session of the NWFP Assembly was "an ample proof of our strength and unification."

He said that things were going in a smooth manner. He, however, admitted that some differences existed, although he remarked that all JUI (S) members attended the meetings of parliamentary party and all decisions were taken unanimously.

He said there was no truth in the suggestion that MMA had been hijacked by two parties.

About the minister of state for water and power, Engineer Amir Muqaam, he said that consultations with legal experts were going on and a disciplinary action would be taken soon against the MMA MNA.
