PESHAWAR, Sept 11: A leader of the Jamiat Talaba-i-Islam (JTI) on Saturday condemned the Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba for its propaganda campaign against NWFP Education Minister Maulana Fazal Ali and said the change in curriculum was not a provincial matter.

Speaking at a press conference, NWFP JTI Secretary-General Ahmad AliMarwat said the IJT must stop its campaign to defame the minister.

He alleged that the IJT had started the campaign at the behest of the provincial Jamaat-i-Islami leadership.

He alleged that the campaign had been launched to blackmail the the education minister after a meeting held at the residence of Senior Minister Sirajul Haq.

He asked that if the Jamaat was concerned over the matter then why its minister Hussain Ahmad Kanjoo attended the meeting of the commissionmade for the curriculum changes.

He said the commission had prepared its report on the changes and sent it to the governor and the federal government, therefore the province had fulfilled its responsibility.

He warned that if the IJT did not stop its campaign against theminister, the JTI had the right to target the elders of the Jamaat-i-Islami.

He lauded the role of Maulana Fazal Ali and said he had met all the provincial education ministers and discussed with them the changes inthe textbooks.

He said that due to the efforts of Fazal Ali, former education minister Zubaida Jalal had ordered deletion of some material from the books.
