SHEIKHUPURA, Aug 21: B-Division police on Saturday registered a case against 10 people, including six policemen, for allegedly torturing to death a sanitary worker.

The case was registered on the orders of DPO Shahid Iqbal against ASIs Malik Saleem, Mian Nazir, Arshad Gondal; constables Boota and two others, and civilians including Abdul Majeed and Munir. The civilians are the residents of Muhallah Mirajpura.

It may be mentioned that deceased Nasir Masih was caught red-handed by Abdul Majeed while committing theft in his house a few days ago. He along with the area people had handed over Nasir to police. The police took the accused to the police station. Later, he was shifted to the local DHQ Hospital where he died allegedly due to police torture.

However, the DPO claimed that Nasir died due to torture of people of the Mirajpura locality.

On Friday, Christian men and women had blocked the Lahore-Sheikhupura Road for one hour in protest. A woman passerby sustained bullet injuries when police in a bid to disperse the demonstrators had resorted to baton charge and aerial firing.

The police have also registered cases against dozens of protesters involved in suspending traffic and rioting.

HOUSE LOOTED: Around 22 dacoits on Saturday looted the house of a landlord in Jogiwala village in the limits of Sharaqpur police station.

Armed bandits barged into Bashir Ahmad's house, held up the family and locked them in a room. Later, the intruders collected 50 tolas of gold, Rs57,000 in cash and other valuables and escaped. The police are going into the matter.
