ISLAMABAD, Oct 29: Federal Directorate of Education, Islamabad, (FDEI) has planned a new model college at Bara Kahu or Chak Shahzad in order to meet the growing demand of students.

Talking to APP, the FDE director-general Brig (R) Maqsoodul Hassan, said the proposed college would help decrease the load of admissions on Islamabad model colleges which were already under a tremendous pressure.

He said the directorate had already constructed two more model colleges each for boys and girls in G-11/1 and I-10/4 sectors respectively during the current financial year.

The number of model colleges in the federal capital has now reached from 17 to 19, he added.

Talking about the educational set up, he said, under the FDEI federal government college system seven degree colleges — four for boys and three for girls — were being run.

There were also two colleges in Islamabad where M.A classes including in English had already been initiated, he added.

The DG said there was also a commerce college in Federal Capital where M.Com classes would be started from next year to meet the growing demand.

About the second system, he said, they had model college system which was peculiar to only the Islamabad city and not existed in other parts of the country.

Under the third stream, he said, they had about 400 federal government schools, including those situated in semi-urban areas of Islamabad.

To a question, he said, there were about 0.2 million students studying in 451 schools and colleges of FDEI and were being imparted quality education by 7,000 teachers.

Regarding budget, he said, FDEI was given Rs700 million during current financial year. It was also given Rs200 million under annual development plan. Rs107 million out of this amount have already been released for various schemes, he added.

To a question about recruitment of about 400 primary teachers on 700 vacant seats, Brig (R) Maqsoodul Hassan said “they were selected without any favouritism.”

These teachers had gone through a written test and “the process was impartial and clean,” he said.

He said the remaining 300 teachers would be appointed from Sindh and Balochistan provinces under federal quota system.

He said in order to facilitate the applicants of these provinces FDEI had decided to conduct test and interview in Karachi soon.

To a question about quality of education, he said, we have established a Training Cell under which about 32 workshops and training courses were arranged and participated by about 1700 teachers of all grades.

Furthermore, we also imparted training to 15 professors from Balochistan, he added.

He said FDEI also organised primary level science exhibitions in five sectors to generate interest in children.

Ten best projects from each exhibition were selected for final exhibition which would be held in November this year.—APP
