KARACHI, June 2: The workers in the Pakistan Steel had a narrow escape when a molten metal spilled in a steel-making plant late Saturday night.

Sources said that one of the four gates in the steel-making plant opened at around 10.30pm (Saturday night) and the molten metal came oozing out burning everything in the way and destructed the machinery etc.

None of the workers, who ran to save their lives, was hurt. However, the machinery, pipe etc., worth over Rs20 million installed in the plant were destroyed. The repair work on the damage is expected to take about 15 to 20 days.

This is the second time that such an accident had occurred in the steel-making plant within a year.

Last year, nine workers were burnt alive and many others were injured in a similar accident. According to an inquiry conducted by the Pakistan Steel officials, the accident had occurred due to usage of faulty material.

Though almost a year has passed no FIR has been registered about the accident.
