HYDERABAD, June 2: The Hyderabad District Council has referred two separate resolutions, calling for the resumption of airline service from Hyderabad and a direct train service from Hyderabad to Lahore, to the sub-committees on Civil Aviation Authority and Railways respectively.

Rana Mehmood Ali Khan here the other day moved the resolution mentioning therein that despite repeated demands of the citizens of Hyderabad, the airline service had not been restarted from Hyderabad airport resulting in inconvenience to the people.

He said that the Fokker service had also been stopped, and added that a commercial airline service had undertaken to restore cargo flights from Hyderabad.

He said that flights were continuing in cities like Sukkur, Rahim Yar Khan, Faisalabad, etc.

Convener Nawab Rashid Ali Khan referred the resolution to the Civil Aviation Authority and the Ministry of Defence.

Q. Mohammed Hakim’s resolution pertained to the resumption of a direct train service from Hyderabad to Lahore.

He said that the people of Hyderabad had been putting this demand to the authority concerned but the issue was still pending.

He called upon the railway authorities to fix a quota for Hyderabad in every up-country train.

The convener said that it was a serious problem and must be taken up by the district council.

He said that the sub-committee should consider all the pros and cons and then prepare a report which should be sent to the Pakistan Railway authorities.

He said that if a new train was started from Hyderabad to Lahore and Peshawar it would reduce the pressure of the passengers on other trains.

The resolution said that direct trains were operating from Karachi, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Quetta.

It said that the quota of the city did not cater to its needs. It demanded immediate resumption of a Lahore-bound train directly from Hyderabad and a new bogie must be fixed at Hyderabad in every up-country train.

The council demanded reinstatement of workers of the Mehran Sugar Mill, Tando Allahyar.
