DHAKA, Aug 7: The Supreme Court of Bangladesh on Saturday reprimanded the government for its procrastination in implementing the court's 12-point directive aimed at separating the Judiciary from the Executive wing of the state.

The admonition came from the full court of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, when the Attorney General, on behalf of the government, sought extension of time for the 17th time on Saturday for the implementation of the directives.

The court issued the directives in December 1999.

Last time, in April, we allowed you three more months and now you have come before us to seek four more months, while no progress has been made on the implementation process over the period" the seven-member full bench presided over by the Chief Justice Syed JR Mudassir Husain said.

The court also directed the AG to let the court know as to "how much time the government would really need to give a specific date to complete the process of implementation of the directives".

However, the AG told the court that two drafts of rules governing services of officials of the judicial service were lying with the President for approval.

"I cannot say when it will be available for, I cannot ask the President to expedite," submitted the Attorney General.
