RAWALPINDI, July 22: The Lahore High Court's Rawalpindi bench on Thursday reserved judgment in the detention case of six army officers.

The bench comprising Justices Akhtar Shabbir and Tanveer Bashir Ansari heard for more than one-and-a-half hours the arguments of both the defence and prosecution and adjourned the case till July 27.

Defence counsel Mohammad Ikram Chaudhry prayed the court to issue a habeas corpus writ to the government for detaining the army officers for such a long time without bringing forth any allegations against them.

When the court took up the case, deputy advocate general (DAG) Chaudhry Mohammad Tariq said the court had no jurisdiction over the case as all the six army officers had been detained under section 2 (d) of the Army Act. Besides, he said, the government did not want to share information with the court due to sensitivity of the case.

When the court asked the DAG whether the government had the rights not to share confidential information with the court under the Army Act, the DAG responded in the affirmative.

Meanwhile, the court also reserved judgment in a petition filed by the wife of Ghulam Sarwar Bhatti, who is in government custody for the last seven months in connection with an attempt on the life of Gen Pervez Musharraf near Jhanda Chichi bridge, Rawalpindi.

Sadia Sarwar Bhatti had challenged her husband's detention and urged the court to allow her to see him.
