LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), July 17: The Kukikhel elders and the Jamrud political administration on Saturday failed to reach an agreement on the border between the Regi Lalma township and Jamrud tehsil of the Khyber Agency.

A jirga of Kukikhel elders held a meeting with officials of the political administration and the city development and municipal department at Jamrud tehsil office.

The tribesmen protested against the expansion of the housing scheme to the land over which they had a longstanding claim.

The jirga members, including Barkat Khan Afridi, Haji Said Wazir, Haji Yousuf and Maulana Juma Gul, told the officials that demarcation was made during the British rule by the then Peshawar commissioner between Peshawar district and Jamrud tehsil.

They accused the municipal department of trespassing the boundary linefor the construction of the housing scheme.

The jirga demanded that a border should be demarcated between Peshawar and Jamrud.

Its spokesman Barkat Khan assured the government that his tribe was ready to negotiate the acquisition of its land for the housing scheme when the boundary was defined clearly.

At least six tribesmen lost their lives when the Kukikhels clashed with security forces in the 1980s over the land dispute.
