ISLAMABAD, June 8: Members of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy have submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly on the remarks of President Gen Pervez Musharraf regarding the Supreme Court verdict in the Shahbaz Sharif case.

The motion, signed by 10 members of the ARD, was submitted under Rule 92 of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992 by the Alliance's parliamentary secretary Izhar Amrohvi on Tuesday morning.

The motion states that Gen Musharraf during an interview to a private channel, which was reported in newspapers of June 4, has made a remark on the verdict of the Supreme Court in the Shahbaz Sharif case which required a discussion on the floor of the lower house.

Gen Musharraf, in his reported interview, had stated that "he did not consider the Supreme Court's verdict regarding Shahbaz Sharif worth implementation as far as this particular case was concerned."

The motion has been signed by seven members of People's Party Parliamentarians (PPP) and three members of the Pakistan Muslim League-N. Talking to Dawn, Mr Amrohvi said Gen Musharraf's statement amounted to contempt of court and the alliance would definitely raise the issue with full force. He said this showed how much respect the government was paying to the judiciary.
