KARACHI, May 29: Senior Civil Judge, Malir, Mrs Rana Shamsi, on Saturday issued notices to defence secretary, federal finance secretary and DG Civil Aviation Authority for July 10.

The court was hearing a suit filed by 250 officers of CAA, who impugned a letter dated April 18, 2004 written by federal finance secretary to defence secretary asking later to recover the increased amount of salary, action against persons who allowed 30 per cent raise in salaries and payment of salary as per old scale to the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs maintained that the CAA was a commercial and self-financing organization and salary structure of its employees was decided by CAA Board under Civil Aviation Authority Ordinance, 1982.

They maintained that CAA Board approved 30 per cent raise in salaries in the year 2002 with retrospective effect and payable from 2001. The difference was paid to the employees besides payment of salary according to the new revised scale.

According to plaintiffs, a letter was written by federal finance secretary on April 18, 2004, to stop payment of revised salary to the employees/officers in Grade 7 to 11 forthwith; recover excess amount paid and take action against those responsible for allowing new salary structure.

After hearing the counsel for plaintiffs, Senior Civil Judge put all the three respondents on notice for July 10, 2004. -APP
