MANSEHRA, May 15: NWFP Chief Secretary Ejaz Quraishi has said that the bureaucracy would have to change its attitude to serve the public.

Speaking to elected representatives and heads of various departments at the circuit house on Saturday, Mr Quraishi said besides changing the attitude towards the people, the government servants would have to improve their efficiency.

The opposition leader in the NWFP Assembly, Shahzada Mohammad Gustasap Khan, District Nazim Syed Ahmad Hussain Shah, MNA Sardar Shahjehan Yousaf and MPA Zar Gul Khan also attended the meeting.

Mr Quraishi said that the district government system was in the best interest of the people and guaranteed the resolution of problems at the local level.

He urged the elected representatives to resolve the issue of Azheera water supply scheme.

He lamented that in the past the local government system had not been allowed to work with consistency, otherwise most of the problems would have been resolved.

He suggested that the funds under Khushhal Pakistan Programme, Tamir-i-Sarhad Programme, parliamentarians' funds and allocations made to the district government should be pooled together and equally divided among different areas for uplift schemes with consultation of the elected representatives.

He stressed that at district level, instead of small schemes, big projects should be taken in hand to avoid misuse of funds.

Mr Quraishi said that he had patiently listened to the grievances of the elected representatives and would try his best for increasing the uplift funds for Mansehra in the upcoming budget.

Shahzada Gustasap urged the chief secretary to focus on the promotion of tourism in Seron valley, construction of Seron right bank canal, solution of problems being faced by the tobacco growers in the area and construction of recreation parks in Mansehra town.

The district nazim said that more incentives should be provided for the promotion of tourism in Kaghan valley.
