KARACHI, May 1: A textile exhibition by the students of Karachi University's Department of Visual Studies commenced at the art gallery of Alliance Francaise Karachi.

As many as 16 students, all graduates in textile design, displayed their works at the week-long event.

The exhibits on display included screens, bed linen and cushions etc.

Head of the KU Visual Studies department, Durriya Kazi, who was present on the occasion, praised the efforts as well as skills of the graduating students.

She was of the view that there was a huge international market for textile accessories and furnishing, screens for interior furnishings, wall-hangings, blinds, table mats and napkins etc.

Ms Kazi said the total enrolment at her department stood at 307.

Those enrolled were pursuing studies in the five disciplines, textile design, graphic design, industrial design, architecture and fine arts.

Ms Kazi further pointed out that the total strength of faculty at her department was 50.-APP
