KASUR, May 1: The magician who motivated a teenaged boy to kill an eight-year-old girl was arrested from Basti Salamatpura, police said on Saturday.

City Circle DSP Zaheer Babar Bajwa told Dawn that Hanif Masih and Rameezul Hassan had been remanded in the City A division police custody.

Darakhshanda, 8, had mysteriously disappeared from Basti Abdul Qadir on March 31. Four days later, parents found her mutilated body in a bag from near the Government Girls Degree College. City A division police had registered a case against unknown people on the report of girl's father Nisar.

Rameez, 15, who was arrested on April 29 told police during interrogation that he killed the girl on the motivation of 'Baba' Hanif Masih. He had contacted the Baba to become a millionaire overnight and to acquire unlimited powers. The magician asked him to bring two metres each of white and black pieces of cloth and zaafran. Later, Hanif asked Rameez to bring some fresh human blood which the latter refused.

Meanwhile, Hanif saw Darakhshanda passing through the street. He motivated Rameez who took her to a deserted place, cut her neck and other parts to get the blood.

Later, Rameez packed the body in a bag and threw it near the college.

It was learnt that some six years ago, a resident of Basti Sabri had killed minor Imran to become a millionaire overnight on the motivation of magician Ramazan of Saddar area.

Family said 30-year-old Arshad, alias Vicky, quarrelled with his wife when she refused to give him money for gambling. Later, he locked himself in a room and allegedly took poison.

He died on way to the DHQ Hospital.
