KARACHI, April 24: The FIR of inspector Taufiq Zahid's murder was registered at the Gulberg police station against unknown assailants late on Friday night.

"We have sealed the FIR and cannot not disclose its contents at this moment as the matter is being investigated," the Gulberg Town Police Officer Latif Siddiqui told Dawn on Saturday.

However, police sources said that the FIR No. 71/04 was registered on a written complaint lodged by the Zahid Raza Khan, father of Taufiq Zahid.

The sources said the complainant had alleged that five unknown men, affiliated with the Sindh's urban-dominated political party had killed his son at the behest of the party leadership.

He further stated that his son had been receiving threats for a couple of days, the sources added.

SSP Investigation Mir Zubair Mehmood said that investigation had been started to find a clue to the killers. The police, he said, had collected available evidence from the scene of the incident.

"We have found four empties of a TT pistol and four of a klashnikov rifle. Besides, a live magazine with 25 rounds was also found in the basket which the killers were carrying with them," he added.

He said: "We have sealed the FIR. I cannot disclose its contents, but it was not registered on behalf of the state. It was registered on the request of a complainant... 'perhaps' on the complaint of the victim's father."
