PESHAWAR, April 24: Police officials must perform their duties with a missionary zeal and ensure protection to the life, honour and property of the people at all cost, says NWFP police chief Muhammad Raffat Pasha.

He was speaking to participants of a police darbar held at the Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines at Dera Ismail Khan the other day.

He urged police officials to maintain the sanctity of the uniform, saying they should never tarnish the department's image.

Mr Pasha stressed the need for restoring the people's confidence in police, saying they should work hard to arrest proclaimed offenders besides adopting a positive, constructive and sympathetic behaviour with the people.

He, however, warned police officials to refrain from highhandedness and violence against people, saying such a behaviour would not be tolerated, adding that criminal cases would be registered against anyone who was found to be involved in misuse of power.

He said that a 30 per cent jobs quota would be reserved for the children of police employees, adding that enlistments would be purely on merit basis.

He called for selection of a proper site for the setting up of a public school for children of police employees in Dera Ismail Khan, adding that work in this regard should be taken up with the help of the government and the Police Foundation.-PPI
