QUETTA: Nazims' protest criticized

Published April 18, 2004

QUETTA, April 17: Balochistan Local Bodies Minister Hafiz Hussain Ahmed Shoradi on Friday deplored the protest demonstration held by Nazims and councillors against the government on Thursday and said it had been staged for "personal gains".

He claimed that people were not satisfied with the performance of the Nazims and councillors as they were fighting for their own interests.

"Members of the district council have no interest in resolving the people's problems," he said and alleged that they wanted their control over the Rs8 billion water and sanitation project for their personal benefit.

"They want to waste the Rs8 billion provided by the federal government for the project," Hafiz Shoradi alleged.

He said the provincial government had taken back the water and sanitation authority from the city government and it was being run by its administration.
