Mansoor steers SSGC to victory

PESHAWAR, April 3: Debutantes Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) edged past NWFP 3-2 thanks to two goals from Mansoor Sheikh in the national hockey championship on Saturday.

SSGC led the first half 1-0 as Mansoor opened the scoring in the 15th minute.

NWFP's Hidayatullah scored the equaliser after the change of ends only to see his effort being cancelled out by Mansoor in the 52nd minute.

Izhar made it 3-1 for SSGC, netting the third. NWFP fought back to reduce the margin through Tariq.

Six goals, including a hat trick by Mohammad Sarwar, helped ABL register a convincing 16-1 victory over Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Aleem Raza scored four times, Mohammad Sarfraz netted twice, while Qamar Raza, Akmal Naveed, Zahid Afzal, and Babar Abdullah netted once.

Zahid Hussain scored the consolation goal for AJK.

Two penalty corner and a penalty stroke conversion by Sohail Abbas guided Wapda to a 7-1 win over Balochistan.

Naveed Iqbal, Rehan Butt, Mudassir Ali and Shahid Rabbani scored one goal apiece. Balochistan's Zubair got the solitary goal.

Customs defeated Punjab B 6-1. Mohammad Ali scored thrice, Naeem Ahmed was on target twice while Mohammad Akhtar found the net once for Customs.

Mohammad Zubair reduced the margin for Punjab B.

Army v Punjab A at 9:00am; PIA v Punjab C at 11:00am; POF v PTCL at 2:30pm; HBL v NBP at 4:30pm.
