HARIPUR, June 1: The anti-terrorism court, Abbottabad, has sentenced Ahmad Zaman Khan to a collective imprisonment of 33 years and fined him Rs60,000 for attacking his brother, niece and five policemen with hand grenades last month. The convict is the first cousin of former federal minister Gohar Ayub Khan.
Tayyab Khan alleged in the FIR that his paternal uncle, Ahmad Zaman Khan, lobbed two hand grenades into their house, wounding his sister Saima Bibi, father Fakhar Zaman Khan and five constables, besides partly damaging their house.
The convict was arrested the same night and his case was transferred to the ATC. The judge, Shahjehan Khan, awarded 33 years of collective imprisonment and a fine of Rs60,000 to him. In case of default on payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of five years and five months.
FAIR POLLS DEMANDED: Former NWFP minister Yusuf Ayub Khan, while terming the performance of the election commission (EC) unsatisfactory, has called upon the government to form an independent election commission before the October general election.
“If the government is really serious in ensuring the transparency of October election, it needs to form an independent and impartial election commission,” he said, while speaking at a Roobroo programme of the Haripur Press Club the other day.
Replying to a question, he ruled out any alliance between the Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League (N) in the near future.
