HYDERABAD, June 1: A group of landlords of Kot Abdullah, Tando Ghulam Ali, Matli taluka, Badin district, have accused a local landlord, Masood Aslam, and his cronies of taking over the possession of their 300 acres of land and assaulting their manager, Abdul Jabber, on May 30.
Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Saturday, Chaudhry Naseer Ahmed, Mohammad Idrees, Shabbir Ahmed and Mehboob alleged that Masood Aslam was a Patharidar and harbourer of criminals and was involved in kidnapping for ransom.
They said that on May 29, the men of Masood Aslam had trespassed on the lands of Chaudhry Naseer. They said the Kamdar of Chaudhry Naseer, Abdul Jabbar, reprimanded the intruders and told them to get out of the agricultural land.
They said that on the next day, Masood Aslam, along with six hooligans, including Khuda Bux Machhi, Sada Buksh Machhi, Qadir Buksh Machhi, Wahid Buksh Machhi, came on the land and attacked Abdul Jabbar with axes and injured him. The injured was admitted to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital.
They said the accused went to the civil hospital and threatened Jabbar of dire consequences if he did not withdraw the case.
The police had registered an FIR against the accused but none of them had been arrested so far.
They said they could not go to their lands as they feared that the accused would kill them.
They appealed to the authorities concerned to order the arrest of the accused and provide them protection.
They had also brought injured Abdul Jabbar from the hospital whose head and fractured arm were bandaged.
SYMPOSIUM: The Pakistan Chest Society, Hyderabad chapter, on Friday organized a symposium on Asthma at the Institute of Chest Diseases, Kotri.
Dr Jameel Ahmed Shaikh, director of the institute, presided over the symposium.
Dr Asghar Ali Arain said that asthma was a global problem and disclosed that 1.50 million people were suffering from the disease throughout the world.
STUDENTS’ DEMO: A large number of students of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, belonging the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Students Federation (STPSF), staged a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday against the murder of Abdul Aziz Shaikh, the brother of STPSF leader Pathan Shaikh, in Ghotki.
Speaking at the rally, Akhtar Samoon, Majeed Sarki, Qasim Dawood Abbasi and others accused the Ghotki police of providing protection to the culprits.
They demanded of the authorities concerned to order the arrest of the murderers without any delay.
NO TOBACCO DAY: The department of community psychiatry, Sir C.J Institute of Psychiatry, here on Friday organized an awareness programme to mark the “No Tobacco Day”.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Qasim Brohi warned that smoking was the first step towards narcotic addiction and appealed to participants to persuade people to give up smoking.
He urged the government to declare educational institutions and hospitals “no tobacco zones”.
Dr Habibullah warned that smoking could cause mouth ulcer, lung cancer, respiratory infection and other fatal diseases.
