KARACHI, June 1: As many as 16 vehicles — seven cars and nine motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen from different parts of the city on Saturday, the police sources said.

Four cars were hijacked and three others stolen in various towns including Saddar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Clifton and Jamshed Town.

Six motorcycles were hijacked and three others stolen from several areas including North Karachi, Gulberg, Nazimabad, Saddar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, etc.

ROBBERIES: Four robberies were reported in the metropolis at various places on Saturday.

Two bandits intercepted Nazeer Hussain in Pak Colony and deprived him of cash and belongings at gunpoint.

Three robbers forced their entry into the house of Shamimul Haq in Gizri, held the family at gunpoint, collected cash, jewellery and other valuables and fled with the loot.

Two bandits intercepted Abdul Mannan at gunpoint in the Tipu Sultan police limits and robbed him of Rs5,500 and his other belongings.

Four dacoits raided a factory in the Korangi Industrial Area, looted the labourers of their cash and other belongings and fled. They also snatched a vehicle in the same vicinity. The police intercepted them, which resulted in an exchange of fire. The police claimed to have arrested one of them who suffered a bullet wound. Three others escaped.

HELD: Police arrested 49 alleged gamblers on Jamila Street in Eidgah area on Saturday.

Police said the raid was conducted on the directives of the Town Police Officer, Saddar, at Akra Centre on Jamila Street, where 49 alleged gamblers were arrested. The police also held the gambling operator Iqbal. A case against them was registered in the Eidgah police station.

However, the sources said people who were standing near pan shops or other shops were also held and booked in the case. Momin, who was among those held, said he was unaware of the gambling den and was buying paan at a Paan Shop when the police raided the place and arrested him.
