SIALKOT, March 6: A number of people submitted on Saturday nomination papers in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur, Shakargarh and Narowal for the by-election to vacant seats of councillors.

A rush of candidates was witnessed on the second day of the submission of nomination papers.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission extended the date for submission of nomination papers till March 8.

Polling will be held on March 28.

CONVICTION: The Sialkot district and sessions judge handed down death sentence with Rs100,000 fine to convict Tahir Wasim while acquitted his co-accused Parveen by giving her the benefit of the doubt.

The convict had killed Farooq over a minor dispute in Rangpura on April 7, 2002.

Meanwhile, the Shakargarh additional district and sessions judge convicted a man of murder.

Convict Umar Shahid was sentenced to death and fine for killing Master Azmat Ali's son Majid over a minor dispute in August, 2002.

Holi: Hindus celebrated Holi with traditional zeal and fervour in Sialkot and Narowal districts on Saturday.

They prayed in temples for peace, solidarity and prosperity of Pakistan.

Later, they distributed food among the poor and exchanged gifts with their relatives and friends.
