Published February 29, 2004

HYDERABAD, Feb 28: Tanzeem Ittehad-i-Pakistan district president Salahuddin Sherwani has welcomed the announcement by provincial health adviser Noman Saigal that appointments made in Hyderabad under the national health programme have been cancelled.

In a statement issued here on Friday, he alleged that recruitments in the health department for field programme officers, superintendents and other posts under the programme were on the basis of nepotism and corruption.

Mr Sherwani claimed that competent persons had been ignored as the appointments were not advertised and demanded that the health adviser should take action against the persons responsible.

The health adviser, through his letter of Feb 26 addressed to the health secretary, a copy of which was obtained by Dawn, said: "Recruitment orders in respect of officers and officials selected through interviews held on Feb 19, 2004, under the National Programme are hereby cancelled".

He further said: "Above said posts will be filled through the selection committee which he himself will chair".

SU: The director (admissions), University of Sindh, announced here on Saturday that last date for payment of admission fees for Masters in Public Administration (first year) and Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration (evening programme) had been fixed as March 13.

Concerned candidates have been advised to deposit their admission fees at the Habib Bank Jamshoro branch up to March 13 as regular classes are to be held from March 15.
