MUMBAI, Feb 21: Bollywood hit "Koi Mil Gaya" swept India's most prominent and oldest film awards on Saturday, bagging the Filmfare Awards' best actor title for heartthrob Hrithik Roshan as well as the best film and best director honours.

"Koi Mil Gaya", a touching story of a mentally challenged man, played by Roshan, and his friendship with an alien, was a Bollywood hit last year after a series of bad films for the actor.

Roshan's father Rakesh, who directed the film, said his son was back in action. "The critics had written my son off but he has come back," he said to a thumping applause.

The best actress award at what is often called India's Oscars went to gorgeous Priety Zinta for her role in "Kal Ho Na Ho", a story of a love-triangle which also won the award for best music.

Veteran filmmaker B.R. Chopra, with more than 60 years of filmmaking, won the lifetime achievement award while Filmfare "power awards" went to Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.-AFP
