KARACHI: Urdu varsity students clash

Published February 15, 2004

KARACHI, Feb 14: Several students were injured in a clash between two groups at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology, Gulshan-i-Iqbal campus, on Saturday morning.

According to some varsity students, activists of the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation (APMSO) and the Pukhtoon Students Federation (PSF) clashed at the campus, allegedly over presenting flowers to a female varsity student on the occasion of the Valentine's Day.

A PSF activist presented flowers to a female student, while the girl was later also approached by an APMSO activist for the same purpose, which sparked a clash between the two groups after an exchange of hot words, they said.

Both the sides freely used batons, bottles and stones against each other, injuring several students. However, no student from any side was arrested by either police or Rangers, deployed at the campus, as the issue was resolved by the groups themselves, through negotiations.-PPI
