PESHAWAR, Feb 5: The Frontier Relief distributed gifts among orphans at the Child Welfare Home here. The Frontier Relief (FR) provided clothes, shoes, stationery, toiletries , suitcases and other goods during Eid to around 60 orphans who are residing at the Child Welfare Home, an orphanage run by the NWFP social welfare department.

Clothes were also distributed among 14 blind girls, who are also living at the welfare home. Other items like 2 electric pianos and toiletries were also distributed among the girls.

"The FR collects Zakat and raises funds from the Pakistani Community in the United Kingdom and then provides relief items wherever help is needed. I am only a shopkeeper in Birmingham, but I visit Pakistan once a year for this purpose," Zaman Khan of the relief organization told Dawn.

He also promised to provide a Braille machine for the blind girls as there was no such facility for their education at the welfare home.

The welfare home was donated with a new washing machine, 3 irons and iron boards, detergents, soaps and tube lights and other goods worth Rs100,000.

"It is a small effort to cheer the children and improve things a little for them at the orphanage, Mr Khan said.

The frontier relief, run by a single man, provided food items to around 800 families at the Zanjeer camp, Pashin, in 2001.

The official in charge of the Child Welfare Home, Sayeda Nudrat, thanked the relief organization for its support and hoped that the assistance would also be provided in the future.

The orphanage is looking after 60 boys and 14 blind girls. There is lack of facilities and staff at the welfare home.
